Sense and Sensibility

Jane Austen is my heroine. Seriously, if I could go back in time and pick one woman to have lunch with, it would be her (the male equivalent being Abraham Lincoln, of course!). She was so revolutionary for her time, and her writing really captures her spirit. All of her novels include some aspect of satire on the society during her time, mainly the ridiculousness of marriage based on money or status and not love. Her female protagonists undergo some sort of life-changing transformation that makes them a better person and usually makes them reevaluate their life. However predictable the thematic elements in her novels are, the stories are always different and the characters themselves are so diverse that you never feel like you're reading the same story. This comes from reading Pride and Prejudice and Emma, mind you. I loved them both.

So now I've started Sense and Sensibility and I don't doubt that I will love it just as much as the others. I will do a review when I finish it, and reviewing books will become a regular thing on here, up in the "Bookshelf" tab! It's my goal to get through all of Jane Austen's novels in my lifetime, and I recommend if you haven't read any, at least try one! It may take awhile since it's older writing, but it's so beautiful and she was so revolutionary in the way she blatantly made fun of her society (especially as a woman) and argued for rights that didn't exist back then. 

If you really don't think you can conquer the books, I can always watch the various adaptations in any mood! I really like the 2005 Pride and Prejudice movie with Keira Knightley and then the 2009 BBC mini-series of Emma was SO well-done! Also, I just recently found a YouTube series that is a modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, known as "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries." And guess what? It's still going on! I know! Exciting! So every Monday and Thursday, you can catch up and watch it like it's going on live...best thing ever! (link: http://www.youtube.com/user/LizzieBennet)

Anyway, hope you've enjoyed my little rant about Jane Austen and I will be reviewing Sense and Sensibility when I finish it hopefully within the next month!

P.S. Jane Austen Fun Fact: Even though she wrote about finding love in the most unusual places and people, she never found it herself. Sad :( 

Lights, Lights, Lights

I've always been really interested in photography and recently, after stealing my dad's fancy camera, have delved into the manual settings and started taking photos everywhere. My friend and I did a winter-y photo shoot the other weekend and I thought I'd share a few edits I did of her; we had a really great time and would love to keep doing it! As you can probably see, there is now a 'Photography' tab at the top of the page as I will continue to put my photography on here and hopefully continue to do many more shoots! Let me know if you are interested in getting some done as well!
